The Power of a Foundation Building Process

Somewhere in November 2022, I pulled back a bit. I had been hammering it hard for years, and I needed a breather.

A few days turned into a few weeks, then a month.

The experience was refreshing, invigorating, and despite me not “doing shit”, I actually got a lot of shit done.

Towards the end of December, I felt the need to read something. David Goggins just released his second book, “Never Finished”.

I enjoyed the first one, so I dove straight into number two.

Within the first 50 pages, it hit me like a transfer truck how disconnected I had been in teaching transformation.

While I admire the shit out of David Goggins, I started thinking about all the steps missing between “get your ass up, get motivated, and get hard mother fucker” (not a direct quote).

Many of the self-help books you read miss a lot of the beginning steps.

Much of what I have put out there through my own attempts to reach people missed the first steps, too!

The baby steps needed to take you from where you are to where you want to be are scattered all over the place.

So many gurus, myself included (before I created 26 Days 26 Ways), talk from a place of completion and “the one thing that will change everything” without showing you the small wins you need to claim FIRST.

When I reflected on my journey, there was no ONE THING that changed everything for me in the beginning.

At first, there were only tiny wins that built up my confidence, discipline, and self-worth.

It took years to get my ass out of the deep dark hole I had buried myself in through addiction, running away from problems, a VERY debilitating sense of self-worth, and all the anger and frustration that came along with all that baggage.

I came up with the idea for a book, a step by step or day by day book to do little challenges to help people get out of their own holes something like the Artist’s Way, going deeper… WAY DEEPER.

But I was back to the problem I had encountered with books. I’d read so many (literally hundreds) and there was usually only one real key point to take away from each one.

And that’s where the 26 Days 26 Ways challenge was born.

I built an experience, one similar to the road I travelled, to take YOU from beaten drained to empowered, motivated, and free of the baggage you’ve carried all these years!

As kids, we have structure through schooling and sports that instill the discipline needed to build amazing lives, but along the way, we pick up a lot of shit that clouds our perception and decision-making.

Bit by bit, the foundations we laid when we were younger get busted, broken, and destroyed. Hell, many of us never had a foundation to begin with.

The 26 Days 26 Ways challenge is about starting from the ground up… to rebuild/build the foundation.

Completing each VERY SMALL challenge builds confidence and helps lay AND reinforce a new foundation you can build a new life on, a foundation that will stand the test of life’s challenges that will inevitably knock a few shingles off or possibly blow your house down…

But as long as you have a strong foundation, you can always come back the next season with a new set of plans and remodel or rebuild on sturdy ground.

If you show up, do the work, and master the small things, the big things you want in life will materialize through your hard work, perseverance, and new mindset.

Trust the process, and start building!

Why $69?

Because it’s just enough to get you invested in the process, and for me to have a laugh with each new experience.

(Having said that, I couldn’t think of a better number that’s fun for both parties 😉 )

And that should give you an idea of where I come from in this challenge.

There’s VERY strong language and a no bullshit approach.

I come hard at the beginning, but I know (through decades of experience) where to show the love and where to lay into your ass.

If ANY of these words offend you:

Here’s a preview of what to expect:

Day One: “A”

A is for accountability.

Do these two SMALL things:

  • get a legal pad and a pen
  • get a partner (tell a friend or family member you’re taking a little journey and want some company)

That’s it.

I told you.

We’re starting small.

I’m not a people person. Some might call me an introvert. Others probably call me a lot worse. I honestly don’t care.

So, personally, I’d go solo, but that’s YOUR choice, the same with all the activities I’m about to serve up over the next 26 days.

The legal pad and pen are non-negotiable. They will be one of the most important things you do during this challenge.

You don’t need to be accountable to any more people.

You already have your boss, family, friends, kids, etc.

It’s time you start being accountable to NUMERO UNO.

Your weight, addictions, lack of motivation, or anything else that’s holding you back are proof you stopped being accountable to yourself A LONG TIME AGO!!

If you don’t want to leave your family while you check out to an early grave, personal accountability is of the UTMOST importance.

The legal pad and paper make you accountable to YOURSELF.

Once you get your pad of paper and pen, write today’s date on the top line.

Below the date, write down the following list:

  • get pad of paper
  • get pen
  • and/or get partner for the 26 Day challenge

This next part is SUPER important part. Once you get the pad of paper and pen, then write your list…. check each of the items off your list.

If you do this at the end of the day, write down anything else you accomplished, achieved, or did today.

Feel free to incorporate anything on your list, as in “Didn’t lose my shit at work today.”

Smile, pat yourself on the back, do the same for your partner if you picked one, and sweet dreams, sunshine.

Tomorrow’s challenge (for the maximum effect, although it’s not necessary) is best done first thing in the morning, before you do anything else…

If you’re one of those people who does that first thing in the morning, day two’s challenge will help interrupt that.

So, you’ll get challenge two before you go to bed tonight. I set this up with US EST times as the standard. If you’re outside of those time zones, make it work for you, and start owning YOUR SHIT!
