The secret to life is engaging, and to do that you need to get stop living on autopilot. That area where you’re running on routine and oblivious to the world around you is the most constricting setting you can be in. Until you stop living on autopilot, you’re a slave to the programs you installed as a child, effectively letting a toddler boss you around. Now, ain’t that a bitter pill to swallow?
Let me give you an example:
This morning, the clothes hamper wasn’t beside the bathroom like usual, so I walked into the room where my wife was and asked her if she had seen it.
She told me, “I was gonna ask you the same thing.”
So I walked to the laundry room where it sat in front of the washer. The night before, she had washed clothes. She left the clothes hamper in front of the washer. This morning, she pulled last night’s clothes out of the washer and put them into the dryer, then put our clothes from this morning’s workout into the washer… ALL THE WHILE THE CLOTHES HAMPER SAT IN FRONT Of THE WASHER.
I bring this up not because I think my wife is absent minded. Not at all. She was running on autopilot.
And guess who owns that domain?
How often are you running on autopilot?
Think you’re not?
As soon as you get up, you have a routine.
- go to the bathroom
- brush your teeth
- wash your face
- get something to eat
- get dressed
- get ready for work
- drink to work
- get coffee
- park in the same spot in the parking lot
- walk into work
- sit down at your desk
- turn on your computer
- go through the same checklist you go through… EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!
When I was a kid, my Dad read the newspaper on the way to school. I tried to get him to stop living on autopilot but it was always the same, “I’ll get around to it.”
And he was DRIVING ME!!
Granted, we lived in a small town, but think about the things you do that I just listed above. How much conscious thought do you put into those activities. If you’re like most people, it’s VERY VERY LITTLE.
And if there’s no thought… if those activities are automatic, then your subconscious is in control. The list above just covers the first hour or two of your morning. Think about the rest of your day. It’s NO DIFFERENT.
So guess how much of your day you’re actually consciously creating….
Less than than 10%.
That means you’re running on programs…
And what created those programs?
Most of the programs you run are based on emotions. The way you feel about money, family, food, alcohol, drugs, work, sex, marriage, divorce, school, exercise, pets, etc., etc., etc. are all based on reactions to you had then patterned with repeated behaviors once exposed to subsequent instances of similar instances.
First of all, your programs were installed by a toddler.
Second of all, those toddler-installed programs are STILL RUNNING YOUR LIFE 10, 20, 30 40+ years after you installed them.
Curious why you keep ending up in abusive relationships?
Wonder why you can’t ever follow through and create that business nagging in the back of your head?
Ever stop to think why you gain all the weight back PLUS SOME even after you felt great, looked great, and held everyone’s admiration for the hard work it took to lose it all in the first place?
Do you still find yourself paying off credit card debt even when you swore you’d never put yourself in that situation again?
- Why can’t you stop?
- Why can’t you start?
- Why can’t things be different?
Because the programs are in control until you stop living on autopilot. The only way to change is if you have a major life event that shakes the foundation of the programs you installed, effectively giving you a reset button, OR you clear those programs.
There’s no need to wait for tragedy to strike. You can take care of programs yourself and save yourself, your family, loved ones, and coworkers the heartache.
